Tilt windows are a modern and particularly practical variant of windows that are simple yet highly functional. Their tilt mechanism allows them to open inwards, perfect for ventilation. Tilt windows also provide valuable light in cellars or attics and are therefore increasingly used here.
If a tilt window can no longer be opened for cleaning or simply for ventilation, it may be that the scissor stay is jammed in the track. In this case, you need to adjust the tilt window by adjusting the set screws on the stay bearing. This allows the window sash to be moved towards the scissor stay bearing and the sash to be adjusted in height.
It happens repeatedly, whether intentionally or accidentally, that you unhinge a bottom-hung window. This is often done deliberately when cleaning the window, for example, in order to easily reach the outside panes. If the window sash is unhinged, you should first tilt the window and then hang the sash back on the bottom bar. Then operate the folding mechanism and try turning the handle to bring the window back into position.
Due to their area of application (usually as basement windows), bottom-hung windows are designed in such a way that they cannot simply "tip away". This is due to the built-in scissor stay bearings. The safety bolts that secure the scissor stay bearing must be removed to open the window so that you can then unhinge the bottom-hung window.
